Mobile broadband has steadily grown in the last couple of years. There is a potential for it to grow even more. According to industry experts the industry will begin to grow even more due to 4G technology and tablets. Already, the iPad and other tablets have helped to improve the mobile network. As more people begin to opt for the mobile tablet the industry will grow even more.

Consumers and businesses across the UK are already wishing to be part of the 4G network. It is rolling out slowly, but some of the products being sold on the markets are already set up for the 4G technology. They want to be able to enjoy the better mobile broadband connection in terms of quality, faster speeds, better reliability, and better capacity. Given the specifications of the products and the demand by users for better services, 4G is definitely going to become a hot commodity.

In the coming years mobile broadband is going to grow quickly. The reason it will go further than any other broadband product, for example the broadband dongle,  is accessibility. There is more accessibility with getting online with 4G mobile broadband. To explain this it is necessary to understand what 4G means.

4G or fourth generation is a cellular wireless connection. It will replace 3G networks. The standards with 4G are a lot higher allowing for 100Mbit/s for high mobility communications and 1Gbit/s for low mobility connections. In other words the stationary user will find a better connection, but there is still a high connection speed for those travelling by trains or cars. The 4G system will be comprehensive in its IP model for laptop computers, smartphones and other mobile devices. Read more…

Is it time for businesses to abandon the landline?

The growth of mobile phones in recent years has been phenomenal. There are now nearly as many mobile phones as there are people on the planet. 1 in 3 adults owns a smartphone, the app market is exploding and augmented reality promises a world of new opportunities. In light of all this, it’s only natural to question whether the landline is still a relevant tool, or whether it is simply out-dated technology that serves no purpose in today’s tech-fuelled economy.

Of course, it would be foolish to ignore the speed at which the mobile revolution has taken place, and its breath-taking levels of market penetration, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the landline is obsolete.

Many businesses find that, whilst they want all their employees to be equipped with state-of-the-art smartphones that allow them to view documents on the train and so on, they still base their communications infrastructure around landline technology.

Are they just clinging to tradition, or is the landline still able to outperform mobiles in some respects?

For most businesses, there are 3 main areas in which landlines perform better than mobiles: security, reliability and flexibility. Landlines are more secure because they are virtually impossible to hack. They are more reliable because they are hard wired (not connected wirelessly to the nearest antenna). They are more flexible because they can be setup in whichever way a businesses requires, and don’t run on complicated firmware.

The fact is that business phone lines remain a vital element of the corporate infrastructure for nearly all companies, regardless of their size, or the industry in which they operate.

Speeding can be decreased by Vehicle Tracking

Fleet companies endeavour to find a way to save their companies money, especially when things like weather and fuel get in the way. This is to say nothing of the VAT increases many fleets are being faced with. All of this can be compounded when drivers speed, causing a rise in fuel usage and rendering business fuel cards null and void. Savings on fuel with cards can only work if the fuel is not being used excessively with speeding or idling.

Furthermore, speeding can lead to an increase of accidents. When it comes to business insurance companies that fail to reign in their drivers could be liable for a great deal more. In fact it could also compromise how willing the insurance company is to pay out for an accident where speeding was involved.

Companies may have to turn towards invoice factoring quotes in order to compensate for the lack of cover from insurance. Drivers being surveyed stated that many of them speed involuntarily. In other words they do not realise they have been going over the limit because they are distracted by other things such as texting, mobile phones, or stress. The UK is hoping to help fleet companies and other drivers by installing more cameras, which started in October 2010.

Smartphones

Smartphones
What’s the craze all about?

If you haven’t heard of smartphones, we’d like to learn where you’ve been hiding all this time. Smartphones have been all over the news and chances are, you do know what they are – only you know them under a different name. Smartphones are mobile phones with computer like capabilities.

What’s that? Aha! Yes, you’ve not only heard of them, you’ve probably seen them as well. Packed with Internet access, email capabilities, address books, and a whole lot more, cell phones have come a long way since their first debut. But be careful not to confuse these newest toys with sandbox devices.

Sandbox devices are tools that come pre-loaded with things like calendars, calculators, and a notepad. What differentiates them from smartphones is that users can add (download and install) additional programs to smartphones and they seemingly become mini portable computers for the people who use them. That – and the ability to edit the content that sits on them – is what makes these phones “smart.”

Some of the more popular brand names include the Blackberry, PalmSource, Nokia, and Windows CE. Yet the craze is extending to even some off-brand company names. Today, it’s hard to find a cell phone that doesn’t offer some sort of “smart” technology because it’s in such a high demand. The convenience of having information at our immediate access is phenomenal – so much so that thousands of programmers have jumped on the opportunity to build unique applications specific to these small machines.

As a result, you can find tons of games, databases, GPA systems, weather reporting programs, and even small encyclopedias on these things – each accessible not at the click of a mouse – but at a few presses of a free thumb. Of course a mini keyboard is available for the text-messaging fan or for the poor fellow who can’t seem to get away from the office. In the latter case, don’t be surprised if you find the entire Microsoft Office suite displayed within a screen no bigger than a matchbook.

Is this a phase? That’s highly doubtful. The market for these devices extends from the highly technical and professional all the way to the pre-teen socialite. The product crosses all demographics and thanks to decreasing costs – it sees no economic boundaries as well. The Wikipedia encyclopedia claims that “Out of 1 billion camera phones to be shipped in 2008, Smartphones, the higher end of the market with full email support, will represent about 10% of the market or about 100 million units.”

But what is it that makes smartphones so appealing? As mentioned, smartphones give us the ability to not only carry our data around with us where ever we go, it also gives us the ability to edit that data any place – any time. In today’s “reality” based generation, we’re always looking for the opportunity to capture and relive a moment. And we want to share that moment with others. At best, smart phones give us the opportunity to express ourselves impromptu with entertaining results.

Attempting to do the same with a bulky desktop computer or laptop is to cumbersome. Even some of the smallest peripherals (digicams, digital cameras, etc.) don’t give us the same opportunities that smart phones do. Being able to carry around a device for communication, creation, recording, and editing simply compliments the need for today’s generation to do more and then do it, faster!

Mobile Phones – Why Thin Is In And Bulky Is Out

Looking back at the past, mobile phones have had a big development and improvement. Gone are the days when people used bulky and large mobile phone devices which in the contrary to its size, only incorporated the basic and simple features. With the technology and trend, mobile phones have become sleek, slim, fashionable and sophisticated.

Mobile phones used to be big and bulky. The functions were just for making and taking calls. Nowadays, you can find lighter mobile phones with multiple features not to mention that the prices are getting down giving the buyers greater deals with the number of uses incorporated on the phone.

One great wonder thin mobile phones have is that with its small and sleek size, the user can actually listen to music, record videos or take pictures. Mobile phones nowadays are more than just a communication device. Its more of life and excitement.

Why is bulky out? There are a number of reasons for this.

1. A bulky phone is annoying to carry. You can’t just put your big mobile phone in your pocket and you wouldn’t want to go around all the time carrying a bag or purse to place your mobile phone in.
2. Bulky phones are not fashionable and not sophisticated. The early phones do not come in different colors and designs. Although some bulky phones are now available in different colors, these phones still do not have the sense of fashion and elegance.
3. Most bulky phones do not have a carry around charger. They have a charging set that is impossible to take anywhere you go. One good thing about bulky phones is that they come with extra battery pack but some people do not feel comfortable changing their batteries especially when the mobile phone runs out of battery while in use. It is still more convenient to just plug in your mobile phone and continue with what you are doing.
4. Some bulky mobile phones do not have as much features as those slimmer ones. Although mobile phone manufacturers have come up with bulky phones with multiple features, bulky phones still have the connotation to people that these mobile phones are less powerful and less useful than the thin mobile phones.
5. Mobile phones are hand held devices. It means you can take it anywhere or have it with you even when you are busy of doing something. Thus, accidents are most likely to happen to your mobile phone when not taken care of. The impact of shock to bulky mobile phones is greater than thinner ones. This is because of the size and weight. Moreover, the greater the shock it gets, the harder to fix it.

Why is thin in? There are also many reasons for that.
1. Gone are the days for bulky mobile phones. Everywhere you go, you can see different styles and brands of slim and thin mobile phones. People know that the trend for mobile phones is focused on the thinner phones.
2. Thin mobile phones come in multiple features. These phones have camera, video recorder and voice recorder. These phones are also Wi-fi ready. It means that you can browse or surf the internet in any Wi-fi spot places.
3. The memory of thin mobiles phones is significantly higher than bulky mobile phones. Some thin mobile phones have now 8 gigabytes memory and some have even greater. Having a high memory enables the user to store different files such as audio files, video files, games and photos.
4. Some thin mobile phones are now enabled with computer features that allow the user to open and work on word documents, powerpoint files and excel files.
5. These days, thin mobile phones are easier to fix than the large mobile phones. Because thin is in, many manufacturers have come up with the spare parts that will be needed in case the mobile phone gets broken. Moreover, many mobile phone technicians have focused on their expertise in repairing the slim and small mobile phones.
6. Thin mobile phones are simply sleek, elegant and fashionable. They come in hundreds of designs and numbers of colors. One can choose from themes provided in the unit or simply download them from the internet. These phones are also loaded with ring tones and messaging features that the owner can choose from. Thin mobile phones also have casings that are changeable allowing the owner to constantly change from one to another. The owner may vary the color of the phone depending on the color of his shirt or bag.

The abovementioned are just some of the many reasons people go for thin mobile phones. With all the features and convenience a thin mobile phone can offer, its no wonder that nowadays, thin is in and bulky is out.

Cell Phone Etiquette You Need To Know

By admin on Monday, August 2, 2010

Owning a cell phone can be a lot of fun. Its portable, convenient, and is comforting to have when driving alone late at night. But now that there are millions of people who own cell phones, proper cell phone etiquette is becoming a concern.

Owning a cell phone doesnt give a person a right to be rude or inconsiderate of others. It may be okay to take your phone with you and have it on while you are in business settings, with the exception of business meetings, but its not okay in some social settings.

People in a movie theater arent going to appreciate it if your cell phone is ringing during a movie. Theyll be even more annoyed if you answer it and talk during the movie. A nice leisurely dinner at a restaurant can be ruined if someone at the table next to you has their phone on and is taking calls. Ive even been in church near someone who apparently thought it was okay to take a call during services. I was close enough to hear what was being said and it definitely was not an urgent call.

Yes, sometimes it may be necessary to have your cell phone on even if you are in a restaurant, theater, concert hall, or meeting. In those situations, put the phone on vibrate. If the phone goes off, discreetly check to see who is calling. If it is necessary to talk to the caller, excuse yourself and go to a quiet area out of earshot of the other diners, theater patrons, etc and return the call.

In some parts of the world wireless phone jamming devices have been installed in public places so that your phone just wont work. In many other places, signs are starting to pop up telling people to turn off their cell phones in both public and private buildings. Not turning off a cell phone can even cost a person money. In New York City, theres a $50 fine for breaking a bylaw that prohibits the use of mobile/cell phones at all indoor performances.

A person can choose to be part of the problem or part of the solution. If people demonstrate consideration for others there wont be the need for more jamming devices, more no cell phone signs, and more laws being passed to fine users who dont obey the no cell phone rules.

Make sure the voice mail is set up on your phone. Encourage people to leave a message for you if you are not able to answer the phone. Then return the call as soon as you can. But make sure to return the call. Just as it is inconsiderate to take a call in a restaurant or theater, etc. it is also inconsiderate to not return a call in a timely manner.

Emerging Mobile Phone Technologies

Mobile phones have become indispensable and now play a big part in everyone’s lives. With the current technology that has made people and nations closer, mobile and handheld devices can truly be considered great inventions and innovations. Gone are the days when one has to go home first before he can use the telephone or go to a public phone booth to place an all-important call to a loved one or business contact. With the presence of mobile phones, everyone has now gone wireless. Communication has, indeed, turned very easy for all.

Mobile phone, as it name suggests, provides mobility. It is portable communication device. One can bring it anywhere. It is made possible by satellites that transmit signals for the phone to send and receive. It is very convenient as one can use it anywhere irregardless of time and region.

People everywhere have seen the evolution of communication technology. From a phone that uses wires to one that no longer requires any. From the analog to the wireless. In some places, wireless phones were provided with signals by the network company. In other places, a simulated card in inserted in the phone to grab and receive signals and send as well. These phones use the concept of signal transmission and radio wave theories that enables a two-way communication with real time and clearer conversation.

From the analog mobile phones that only allowed calling and voice conversation evolved the mobile phones that have text messaging features. It is another emergence in the world of mobile technology. A person may send a text message that will be received by another party. This message is sent through a signal passing to a gateway which transmits it to the receiving party.

In the turn of the 20th century, mobile phones have become more of a trend and companies have started to make them appear more sophisticated. Mobile phones started with big sizes which transformed to smaller ones and then became bigger again. It has developed much like how computers have. Nowadays, mobile phones are not just for communication. Originally, it had the voice call function but since the technology is growing day by day, the mobile technology grows along with it. Mobile phones now have been created with different functions and usage which are beyond plain communication usage. These functions are constantly updated and additional features are created each day.

Mobile phones also serve as mp3 players and/or audio, video file storage units where users may save audio files and listen to the music. Mobile phones now are also equipped with cameras that come in different pixels allowing people to take pictures anywhere and anytime. Almost all mobile phones of these times are designed with games, calculator, organizer, alarm clock, dictionary and many more. These are just now considered the basics. Some updated mobile phones may now take video clips and still photographs of which may be transferred to the computer for different purposes. Many mobile phones are also designed with touch screen features where a person doesnt need to touch the keypad anymore. The screen of the phone is designed to recognize commands as the finger tip touches the screen.

Moreover, mobile phones are now used as computers. With the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), surfing the internet is now made possible. GPRS is used to transmit IP packets which enable users to use the internet wherever they go. People also use their mobile phones in banking transactions where they can send and receive money through phone.

Several high technology features are continuously being researched and applied to mobile phones. Not long ago when 3G system was developed. It enables users of the same networks call each other with real time camera. Through this system, one can actually see the person he is calling while talking to him. Long before people finally get familiar with the just launched 3G system, many companies are now researching on the higher system which is the fourth generation or 4G system. Researchers project the new system as faster with a connection speed reaching 100 Mb per second. This is seen to provide a better quality of call.

Mobile phones are not only for personal use like it was in the past. With mobile phones, reporters and journalists may now take and film news reports. Security system and surveillance are also possible.

It is seen in the near future that mobile phones are most likely to replace laptops. With the new mobile phones coming out of the market, viewing and working on documents only found in computers are now possible. It is also seen to replace entertainment devices with all the entertainment features new mobile phones have.

Mobile phones do not only play a big part in technology. Mobile phones also show fashion and style. Thus, to make these phones more appealing and attractive, manufacturers produce these phones in different colors, size, shape, and style.

Mobile phones are indeed one of the greatest contributions of technology. It has gone far beyond what man can imagine. Now, with the emergence of mobile technology, everyone just cant live without one.

The Advancements Of Modern Mobile Phones

Learn how the modern cell phone got to what it is now by comparing it with its past versions. Be able to choose wisely from the current popular mobile phones by knowing the multitude of features these phones have.

Communication has quickly evolved over the years. The telephone reached great heights but there was one thing that was holding it back. This was because of being connected to a phone line at all times, making it impossible to bring around wherever you may go. Thus the invention of the mobile phone, otherwise termed as cellular phone or cell phone for short.

Mobile phones definitely made a splash upon their release to the public. No longer were people unable to leave their home phones in order to get calls from others. They would bring their mobile phones anywhere with a signal coverage to make and receive urgent phone calls or even just have a chat. Having a mobile phone is a luxury. After all, people enjoy chatting. Earlier versions of mobile phones enabled the user to call another mobile phone user anytime and anywhere. It was that convenient.

Soon, newer mobile phones were developed to further enhance communication. These cell phones had Short Messaging Service, or SMS, which allowed cell phone users to compose written texts and send them to others, who in turn can read these messages on their cell phone screen. This revolutionized a whole new communication trend.

The parts of communication involve a sender, a message, and a receiver. Modern phones with text messaging capabilities accurately abide by this principle. The only factor different with traditional communication to text messaging is that traditional conversations integrate feelings with their messages. Whenever a person speaks, his/her voice, tone, and pitch can be methods to express his/her feelings. With text messaging, the message is purely bland, although later on people developed styles of creating emoticons, which are basically a group of letters, numbers, or symbols illustrating faces expressing different emotions.

Mobile phones shortly developed Multimedia Messaging Service or MMS which allows the sending and receiving of pictures, videos, and music files. Soon, a multitude of other features were added as well, including GPRS, WAP, and EDGE, which were basically used to access the internet through the mobile phone.

With the addition of cameras, integrated MP3 players, and wireless connectivity such as infrared and Bluetooth technology, mobile phones were slowly turning into versatile multimedia devices. They rival even the functionality of the digital camera, and MP3 player. No wonder sales of these devices faltered while the sales of cell phones increased dramatically.

Cell phones are evolving faster every time. The current selection of mobile phones mostly incorporates 3G technology and wireless internet access. Other than the usual text messaging and voice calls, you now have the ability to view the person you are talking to with this 3G technology. Talk about a huge leap in the field of communication!

If you plan on buying a popular cell phone, take time to learn the variety of selections first. There are basically three types of cell phones in the market today. The first is the basic budget handset. It has all the basic functions you can expect from a mobile phone, minus the flashy gadgets and functions. They are basically plain and simple text and call mobile phones. The second is the multimedia phone. It still has the basic text and call feature, along with hardware peripherals such as cameras, wireless connectivity and more powerful speakers for music. Some also have built in radio as an added feature. The third type of cell phone is the smart phone. It is usually aimed for those business people on the go. The features include a full QWERTY keypad, named after the first sequence of letters in the computer keyboard. The smart phone has all the advanced features considering its very expensive cost. These features include wireless internet connection and browsing, email, and various applications that enable the user to view documents that can only be normally viewed using a computer.

With this selection in mind, you may want to reflect on what cell phone category you want to choose. First, consider your budget. Do you have the adequate finances to buy a brand new popular cell phone? Then, you should think about how you will use the cell phone. Do you find yourself actually needing those extra features in your everyday life? Do you actually need wireless internet connection on the go if you are already retired for instance? But dont think poorly of this functionality. For example, if you are a typical student, you can use your cell phone for convenient web browsing. This would save you a lot of time. Therefore, it is wise to think it over before buying.

Part of what drives you to buy these popular cell phones would probably be due to the appeal of these gadgets to the general public. They are definitely eye candy. These gadgets are currently one of the luxurious items that everyone craves. Mobile phones are now established as status symbols in society. The newer the cell phone, the more popular you become. The more expensive the cell phone, the richer they regard you.

There is no great mobile phone. It is the perspective of the buyer that makes it so. There are so many phones that cater to different people with different statuses. Whats great for one group of people may not be great for another. Choose whatever phone you feel right for you.

Today, there are more people owning cell phones than people having regular phone lines at home. This speaks well to the mobile phone market. It is expected that mobile phones will still be a popular luxury for a long time.
